Where does the Garbage Go? This program is about where the garbage goes, what it costs to dispose of it, and what the benefits and impacts are. Most residents and businesses probably know little about what happens to the garbage they put out to the curb, and even less about the environmental, financial, regional planning, and other issues related to waste. Environmental Scientist John Waffenschmidt of Covanta Energy is a dynamic and fascinating speaker who can answer the question: “Where Does Our Garbage Go?” He has addressed many legislative and community groups on this topic. Covanta’s Hempstead facility is Long Island’s largest waste-to-energy plant so he has a genuine local understanding of this global issue. Check outtheir website: www.covantaholding.com

The Miracle Foundation www.miraclefoundation.com
The Miracle Foundation is a Garden City-based nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of those diagnosed with cancer and to finding a cure for this disease. Integral to our mission are improving patient care, increasing cancer awareness and funding worthy scientific research. Our efforts focus on raising funds to support the work of individuals and organizations who can help us achieve our goals. We will remain committed to this pursuit until cancer is no longer a major health threat. Michael and Patti Tenaglia founded The Miracle Foundation in 2000, two years after Michael was diagnosed with a rare and deadly form of esophageal cancer. Ultimately, he lost his battle with cancer in 2002 but his wife has continued to foster the growth and development of the Foundation. And, its list of many accomplishments in such a short time is a testament to Patti’s dedication to their shared vision and to the generous support of Foundation’s many donors. Ms. Tenaglia is the spokesperson for the Foundation and is very willing to speak to groups both large and small to share her story and to introduce others to the goals and mission of The Miracle Foundation.
